VARYA, a 40 foot Rhodes 27 sloop, was designed by the noted yacht designer Phillip Rhodes and built in 1940 by the yard of Paul Kettenberg in San Diego California. This yard was noted for its very high standards of material and workmanship and VARYA is a living example of that quality.
This vessel was originally commissioned by a wealthy Chicago businessman who, typically, raced a
boat for one season and had another built for the next. Each of his vessels were named after his wife Barbara. VARYA is the Russian equivalent of this name.
The present owners are seeking a qualified buyer who appreciates the finer things in life such as time-honoured beauty, craftsmanship, and old fashioned quality and is willing to maintain this vessel to the standards that guarantee a further 75 years of active sailing.
